Thank you First Alert for sponsoring this post.
Hey guys can you believe it is officially October? This year has been flying by! In addition to celebrating Halloween this month, it is also Fire Prevention Month. To make sure my family is prepared, ensure you have the proper protection installed in your home and an escape plan in place.
We received a First Alert Rechargeable Home Fire Extinguisher, a 10-Year Sealed Battery Combination Smoke & CO Alarm, and a Whole Home Safety Checklist. After I gathered the family, we were ready to complete First Alert’s Whole Home Safety Checklist and install whole home protection.
After reviewing the safety checklist, I tested out all of our existing smoke alarms and installed a First Alert 10-Year Sealed Battery Combination Smoke & CO Alarm in the rooms that did not have one. I also added a First Alert Rechargeable Home Fire Extinguisher in our kitchen. Afterward, I sat down with my kids to discuss and practice our escape plan. I mapped out our home for them and showed them where the smoke and carbon monoxide alarms, and fire extinguisher were located by labeling them with the related stickers. Check your home’s fire safety protection using First Alert’s Whole Home Safety Checklist.
Three out of five home fire deaths occur in homes with no smoke alarms or no working smoke alarms. Smoke and carbon monoxide alarms should be installed on every level and in every bedroom of a home. Ensure you add fire and CO protection and test your alarms regularly. This includes replacing the batteries every six months or upgrading to g new alarms like the First Alert 10-Year Sealed Battery Combination Smoke & CO Alarm that has 10-year battery life, which eliminates the need for battery replacements.
As part of Fire Prevention Month, @loweshomeimprovement wants to #buildthanks for first responders, doctors and nurses with a 10% discount Oct. 22-24. Register for this special offer at Lowes.com/firstresponders.
The First Alert Combination Photoelectric Smoke and Carbon Monoxide Alarm has voice and location alerts that tell you the type of danger and its location. It is very easy to install and is half as thick as a standard smoke alarm. In addition to detecting smoke it also detects carbon monoxide.
Fire extinguishers should also be placed on every level of the home, and in common places like the kitchen. The #1 cause of home fires is unattended cooking, so make sure you have an extinguisher within reach. Also it is important that you know how to use it. An easy way to remember is by using the acronym P.A.S.S.
P – Pull the pin
A- Aim the nozzle at the base of the fire
S- Squeeze the trigger
S- Sweep from side to side
You can find First Alert fire safety products at Lowe’s. I am confident my family and home are prepared in case of a fire thanks to completing First Alert’s Safety Checklist. This Fire Prevention Month, be sure to complete First Alert’s whole home safety checklist for your home and add reliable protection you can trust from First Alert.
