Growing up in Louisiana, our family ate a lot of seafood. I was lucky enough to go fishing with my dad, and boy did it feel great to eat what you caught! From crawfish to crabs and everything in between, I like almost every type of seafood. I try to eat it whenever I can, plus, the USDA recommends that a person eats seafood at least two times a week!
Now that I am living in Texas, I am surrounded by Mexican cuisine. Since I enjoy eating seafood, I wanted to make a dish that combines my Louisiana and Texas roots. So, I decided to use Gorton’s Beer Battered Fish Fillets to create Cajun Fish Tacos.
You can find Gorton’s Beer Battered Fish Fillets at your local Walmart. On my last shopping trip, with my two littlest ones in tow, I picked up a few packages of Gorton’s. You can find them in the frozen food section, or you can easily shop for them online using Walmart’s pickup and delivery service. In addition to being delicious, Gorton’s is also easy on the wallet. So even if your family is on a budget, you can still provide them great tasting seafood.
If If your family loves eating Gorton’s like ours does, you should check out this three ingredient recipe I created featuring Gorton’s Popcorn Shrimp.
To get started you will need the following:
- 1 package of Gorton’s Beer Battered Fish
- 10 Flour Tortillas
- 1 Package of Coleslaw (I like to buy it prepackaged to save time)
- 1/2 Cup Fish Taco Sauce or Spicy Mayonnaise
- 1 package of Monterey Jack Shredded Cheese
- 1 red onion
- 1 jalapeño
- 1 avocado
- 3 limes
- Salt
- Pepper
Cooking Instructions:
Follow the cooking instructions on the Gorton’s packing to cook fish.
While the oven is heating, cut up limes into fourths and chop up the red onion.
Then place fish in oven.
While fish is cooking thinly slice jalapeño, and cut up avocado into cubes and place to the side. These will be used later with the limes and onion for garnish.
In a large mixing bowl, pour the package of Coleslaw and 1/2 cup of fish taco sauce, then toss.
Remove fish from oven.
Take one flour tortilla and place 1 fish fillet (or 2 if you have a larger tortilla) onto the tortilla.
Then top with Monterey jack cheese.
Then add coleslaw mix.
Finally add, red onion, sliced jalapeño, avocado, and salt and pepper to taste.
Finish with a squeeze of lime and enjoy!
Everyone in my family enjoys eating these tacos. This recipe is very easy to make, and takes less than 30 minutes to prepare. I highly recommend trying it out for your family’s Taco Tuesday Night.
This is just one meal that is traditionally served with beef, chicken, or pork, that can be easily substituted with Gorton’s Fish.
