Guess what time it is? It’s Carnival Time aka one of my favorite parts of the year. For those who don’t me, I was born an raised in Baton Rouge, LA which is an hour away from New Orleans. I also lived in the Warehouse District of New Orleans and cheered for the New Orleans Saints. New Orleans holds a special place in my heart and to top it off my boyfriend is from New Orleans. If you have read some of my past posts you can see that I go back to New Orleans a lot! One time of the year that I don’t miss is Mardi Gras, which is quickly approaching. Since New Orleans is so near and dear to me I wanted some art work to display in my house to remind me of all the wonderful times I have spent there. In my search, I found a company called Modern Map Art.
Modern Map Art creates maps of various countries and cities in black and white images from 8×10’s all the way to poster size. Depending on the city, they also come in other colors that are affiliated with that city. For example, the City of New Orleans’ map comes in Mardi Gras colors (purple, green, and gold) and The New Orleans Saints’ colors (black and gold). Since I cheered for the Saints and I am still a die hard fan, I chose the black and gold print in the poster size (24×36). I found a fairly inexpensive frame from Michael’s to put it in.
These maps make great gifts. For instance, I am going to a couple of destination weddings this year and a map of the cities where the couple are saying their vows would be a very unique way to commemorate their big day. Modern Map Art also makes ski maps and you can put your favorite map on a pillow or phone case. Check them out and if you don’t see your city of choice, send them an email because they do custom work!
