After having McKenna (and gaining 50 lbs) I was not feeling my best. The lack of sleep and having a C-section also fed into me wanting to wear my maternity clothes even though I was no longer pregnant. When you are a first time mom taking care of a baby around the clock, you always put their needs before yours. The one priority I did have was getting as much sleep as I could. When it was time for me to go to events, I picked out outfits that required little effort to look good and didn’t bother my C-section scar which was still healing. When I am in a rush to pick something out to wear I always gravitate towards my dark colored clothing. There are a few reasons I do this. Number one, now that I am a mom I find that McKenna has a tendency to wipe her face on my clothing. Even when I have already wiped her face, there frequently seems to be remnants of her last meal on my pants’ leg! Wearing dark colors keeps the stains on my clothes unnoticeable. Number two, wearing all black or dark colors makes your body look slimmer, and like most people I like looking slim. Lastly, black clothing pieces are easier to coordinate with other pieces of clothing, so it’s also a matter of convenience. When I am out and about running errands on the weekends with McKenna or running late for work, I am normally wearing all black. It’s my go to attire. Read more
So I love heels, but I love wearing flats even more. I guess that’s what happens when you become a mom, or just get older for that matter. Two main reasons I like wearing flats are so my feet don’t hurt and that I am less prone to having baby deer legs which may cause me to lose my balance while holding my child (who is quite heavy for a 22 month old).
