For those of you who do not know, I recently moved from Dallas, TX into a new home in Houston, TX. Moving is already stressful, so moving with a toddler and a dog over three hours away made it more challenging. To help manage the various projects in my life, I like to make lists. There is something about writing things out that always seems to help me get the job done. It also may be the fact that, before I was a full time blogger, I was a IT Project Manager. All I did was manage people and projects. To alleviate some of the stress for any readers who will be moving in the future, I wanted to share with you my new home essentials checklist.

Along with furniture, there are many things you will need when moving into a new home. People often forget the smaller things that are needed, like cleaning supplies and liners to protect your new cabinetry, not to mention all of the cool IT gadgets out there that can turn any home into a smart home these days. So without further delay here is my new home esstentials checklist:

  1. Western Digital My Cloud Home: Technology is constantly advancing everyday and to stay with that trend, Western Digital has created the My Cloud Home. The age of the external hard drive which you have to plug in is a thing of the past. With the My Cloud Home you can store and organize photos, videos, and files from any device and access them from anywhere. With the My Cloud Home, you can save all of your files to a cloud based hard drive which uses the Wifi in your home to transfer the files from your device to storage dock. It can hold up 2-8 TB of data, depending on what option you buy. So for those of you who slow your device down by saving all of your files to your phone, or computer, you should really look into this product. Since my family decided to go all  paperless we save everything on the My Cloud Home. After our wedding in February, we were sent thousands of photos from our wedding weekend. We were able to save all those photos to our My Cloud Home, and allow our wedding guests to access and save the photos they wanted via a link we sent them. These photos are the items that I enjoy most having access to.  Although it is a little pricey, you get what you pay for and the Western Digital My Cloud Home is worth every penny. 2. Comet® Bleach Powder and Comet® Foaming Bath Spray: When you move into a new home you may need to clean it before moving your belongings into the space. I know with my previous home in Dallas, the whole house was a mess and needed a deep cleaning. My mom has been using Comet ever since I can remember, and I like to use Comet too because it works like a dream. The Comet Bleach Powder is great for removing stains on tile and countertops. You just sprinkle it on a wet surface, let it sit for about 15 seconds, and then rub it with a sponge and rinse. For those of you who have encountered soap scum and hard water stains, I recommend using Comet Foaming Bath Spray. Even in my brand new house, water stains were already starting to show on the glass shower door. After using the Comet Foaming Bath Spray, they are no longer there! Find out more both these products here!
  3. Smooth Top® Easy Liner® Brand Shelf Liner – In order to protect not only our new cabinetry from scratches, but also the items we are putting in them, I placed Smooth Top® Easy Liner® Brand Shelf Liner throughout all of the cabinetry in my entire house. These non-adhesive liners are easy to cut and install, and also add a decorative touch. These work especially well in my bathrooms, because on several occasions I have had items like makeup and lotion leak onto the shelving. I can just simply wipe of the residue and it’s as good as new. They are available in 12″ and 20″ widths, and with a price tag of $5-$6 per roll they won’t break the bank. Save $1.00 of 2 rolls using this link!
  4. Waterpik® Brushed Nickel PowerSpray+TM Fixed Mount Shower Head: Since my home is brand new, I don’t have use for a new shower head right away; however, in my previous home I had to replace all of the old shower heads. A Waterpik® PowerSpray+TM Shower Head is definitely a new home essential if you are moving into a home with older shower heads. Waterpik® is the leader in replacement shower heads. If you are lacking water pressure in your shower, then give the Waterpik® Elite Shower Head a try. Its PowerPulse Massage® technology gives you up to two times more massage force than other shower heads. These innovative shower heads are easy to replace and provide spray settings with a wide array of sensations allowing you to truly enjoy your shower experience. 5. Wemo Mini Wi-Fi Smart Plug: If you already own an Amazon Alexa or Google Home and are interested in turning your home into a smart home, than take the next step by buying a Wemo Mini Wi-Fi Smart Plug. I have these smart plugs throughout my home and as I mentioned before they work with both the Amazon Alexa and Google Home. These plugs are wifi enabled and are very easy to setup.  Once configured, you can turn outlets on via your smart phone or by voice command. Basically you can be across the world and still have access to the outlets in your home. These come in especially handy for my daughter who can’t reach the light switches in her room. I have one of these connected to a lamp in her room. She can simply say “Hey Google, turn on bedroom light,” and the lamp will turn on for her. Use the following code to save $5 off a Wemo Mini now through April 12th 2018: BWM-KX5B-NM1D-BDMZ

Moving into a new home can be difficult, but having great products like these made the move less stressful. Have you recently moved into a new home? If so, what products were useful to you?
