My New Year’s Weekend Recap

Fashion/ Travel

I hope everyone had a great and safe New Year! The holidays flew by way too fast for my liking! I know lots of people are making New Year’s resolutions, and many of them include loosing weight. I plan to shed some pounds starting tomorrow because I am eating a delicious cookie as I am typing this. I woke up super early this morning because I drove in from Houston, and I needed to make it into work on time. So, I essentially am giving myself a free pass until I can get back to my normal work/life schedule.

img_9459I spent my New Year’s holiday in Baton Rouge and in New Orleans, LA. It was definitely a festive weekend as I had many parties to go for friends and family. Unfortunately New Year’s Eve was not very fun for McKenna because we spent 3 hours at an urgent care on Saturday morning because she ended up having two ear infections. Luckily the antibiotics the doctor ordered are working and she is starting to act like her usual self.

Since New Year’s Eve parties are one of the best reasons to wear your things that sparkle, I decided to do just that. My first look, which I wore to my family’s pre-NYE party at my Great-Aunt’s house in Baton Rouge, featured these awesome sequin leggings from Gray Monroe. I got a size small (I’m 5’4”) but if you are taller that that I suggest going with a size up. I paired them with a black sheer tank and one of my favorite bras. I also got to finally wear my new rhinestone ear cuff that I am currently obsessed with. My whole family at one point or another asked me what the heck was in my ear, so these earrings are an accessory that will no doubt get you noticed at a party, but in a good way. 🙂 The party was lovely. We drank Cakebread Cellars Cabernet (one of my favs) and sat by the fire pit outside at the end of the evening while listening to my family tell stories about how mischievous my dad and his brothers were as children.img_9458img_9437 On New Year’s eve after spending several hours at the doctor with McKenna, my parents agreed to watch McKenna for me while my boyfriend and I went to our friends’ New Year’s parties in New Orleans. On the way to New Orleans there was torrential downpour and it looked like the night was going to be ruined by weather, but after we finished getting ready the rain had passed and there was plenty enough time for kids of all ages to pop fireworks. Our first party was around the corner from my boyfriend’s parents’ home. There were lots of families there and the fireworks didn’t stop. They were actually having a firecracker popping competition in the middle of the street. Needless to say it got a little smoky, but it didn’t ruin the fun.

Our next party was at my friends’ home. The party theme was “Let’s Get Toasty” and everyone did just that. Sequined and rhinestone attire were highly encouraged for this party and it was tuxedo optional. There were so many great outfits there and even some of the guys wore sequined tuxedo jackets. Lots of bottles of champagne were popped and we counted down to the New Year. My boyfriend and I made it all the way to 1 am and then decided it was our bedtime.img_6839

When looking for a NYE outfit, I decided I wanted to look good, but stay on a budget. For past New Year’s parties I had spent boo coo money on dresses. For both parties, I wore this amazing nude velvet rhinestone dress, which costs less than $40; I paired it with these faux leather drop earrings (less than $6). I wore suede peep-toe pumps and carried a black and gold clutch. The dress is figure flattering and gives you support in the mid-section, and the material is thick, so you can’t see through the skin toned fabric.

Looking back at 2016, it was a great year, I started dating the love of my life, McKenna turned two, I made it successfully through one year of home ownership, and I started my blog, which has become one of my passions. I can’t way to see what 2017 will bring! Happy New Year’s!

XOXO – Hayley & McKenna
